I have decided to take a new position at Unlimited Systems as a Product Quality Analyst. I will bring my automated testing, technical writing, and QA expertise to an already well-established QA team to assist them in the next phase of product development. I wish everyone at my old company nothing but the best, but this position felt like the right fit for me at this time in my career. Thanks to everyone for their interest in my services over the last few months. It has been an interesting time, but I’m happy to have made this decision. The new adventure will begin on December 7.

It’s been a week now since I’ve returned from my 2-week trip to Alaska. It was more stunning than I can describe, and I’m afraid I’ve been spoiled from this trip. Will I ever enjoy the scenery in the lower 48 states as much as I used to? Probably, but nothing will quite measure up to what I saw in Alaska. I’ve posted a couple hundred pictures that I took on the trip. They were all taken with an iPhone 5s, and I was surprised at how well they turned out. Go to the Alaska media page to check out all of my photos.
My brother has been taking professional photos of national parks for years including parks in Alaska. So if you’d like to see a much better crop of pictures, please visit his site at NationalParked.com.

I have decided to take a break from consulting, and have accepted a position as a QA Analyst at a new company. I’ll be starting the day after Memorial Day at a small company where I’ll be the second member of a newly formed QA organization. I’m sad to be leaving the people I’ve grown to know and love at both Sogeti and Luxottica, but this was too good of an opportunity to pass up. I’m very much looking forward to starting a new challenge at my new employer, and hope to have many good years ahead of me. I wish my current colleagues the best of luck, and hopefully I’ll run into you all sometime again in the future!
Because of this, I will be changing the site a bit. I may be removing the long-form resume and cutting down on some of the home page content. However, I will continue to update the blog, and I might be creating a new site soon. Stay tuned.

This morning I took the ISTQB Foundation certification test and passed with a 95% score. It’s a good certification to go for if you’re wanting to start a career in software testing since it’s internationally recognized and has additional expert levels after the foundation level. It’s pretty easy and painless to study for. The test is only 40 multiple choice questions, which was incredibly simplified compared to the CSTE test I took in 2011. That test required almost 4 hours with 2 parts multiple choice and 2 part essay!
It’s been awhile since an update, and I apologize for that! A lot has happened since the last post – a presidential election, the holidays, meteors exploding in Russia… I’ll try to get back on it and post more often.

Hello and welcome to the newly redesigned website for AlexGrantz.com! The last version of the site that offered technical communication services has now been replaced with a more personal resume and portfolio site. I will use this blog to post about anything and everything my little heart desires. You might have to endure bad humor from time to time, but some of the stuff I post about should be interesting to anyone who knows me.
For more about what might show up on the blog, check out the home page of the site.
