NASA’s Opportunity rover sets space driving record

NASA’s incredible Opportunity rover has set another milestone. It has now traveled the farthest distance of any American vehicle on an extra terrestrial surface. It has covered a distance of 22.22 miles on the surface of Mars, which eclipses the record set by the Apollo 17 astronauts¬†Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt over 40 years ago. Opportunity was supposed to last only 90 days and has now been operating successfully on Mars for over 9 years! It will be interesting to see how far Curiosity can make it. Let’s hope it is as successful as the plucky Opportunity rover!
